How to Do a Coastal Campervan Loop in Croatia in 1 Week

Start Your Journey in Split

Launch your Croatian campervan escapade from Split, the centre of Dalmatia. This coastal city has unique Roman heritage, busy harbor, and lively atmosphere. Collect your campervan rental here, stock up on supplies and visit Diocletian’s Palace, climb up to Marjan Hill and walk along the Riva promenade; then drive south along the coast.

Drive Down to Makarska Riviera

From Split, drive for approximately 90 minutes to the Makarska Riviera, which is a strip of coastline, the waters of which are pristine turquoise, with white pebbly beaches and the Biokovo mountains in the background. Spend a night here taking a seaside dinner, swimming in sheltered coves or hiking to the Skywalk Biokovo for extensive views.

Explore the Pelješac Peninsula

Then go down to the Pelješac Peninsula. This less-visited region is populated with picturesque vineyards, oyster farms, and cute towns such as Ston – where you can amble around old city walls. Go wine tasting at a local winery, and eat the seafood; and park along the sea coast or in a local campground overnight.

Spend a Day in Dubrovnik

Drive down south to Dubrovnik, one of the most famous cities in Croatia and a world heritage site by UNESCO. Come early to park your campervan at the outskirts of the old town just outside the town walls, then, check out old town, stone town walls, Lovrijenac Fortress, the town life, spirit. Although Dubrovnik is busy, it is an integral component of the coastal loop. Go back to your campervan and rest for a peaceful sleep outside the city.

Head Up to Korčula Island

Make a brief ferry boat trip from Orebić to Korčula Island which is often referred to as the “mini Dubrovnik”. Although campervans can be carried on the ferry, make sure in advance about availability and price. Explore korčula town (which is rumoured to be Marco Polo’s birthplace), sun yourself on the beaches and sink into the easy-going island life. Camp on the island or head back to the mainland after spending the night in the island.

Travel North Toward Zadar

Start heading towards the north and pass by pretty coast towns such as Ploče, Makarska again and eventually arrive to Zadar. This ancient town combines the ancient Roman ruins with contemporary facilities such as the Sea Organ and the Sun Salutation. Park your campervan in a close-by campground or RV park and watch a sunset by the sea.

Visit Krka National Park

On your way back to Split, take a detour into the interior to the Krka National Park. Krka with the waterfalls, swimming places and wooden trails through the lush nature gives a calm alternative to the coast. Spend a couple of hours sightseeing before you will return to Split for your last night.

Conclusion

Coastal campervan loop of Croatia during one week is adventurous but at the same time doable. This is a route that runs between Split; and is a combination of historic cities, natural beauty, island charm and coastal relaxation. And if you stay flexible and use the local campgrounds, you are going to see Croatia’s Adriatic coast in one of the most unforgettable fashions.
